Exhortations as Windows into Jesus’ Love for You
People often take 1 Corinthians 13 and apply it to Jesus. They insert their name in John 3:16. Those are two examples of meditating upon the Scriptures to positively personalize them in a way that upholds the meaning of the text.
It is written in Romans 13:8 that love fulfills the law.
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. (Romans 13:8)
We know that Jesus never sinned, but fulfilled the just requirements of righteousness. The open secret is that He did this through love.
When we consider instruction concerning implementing love we are able to see examples of “how” Jesus loves. Why? Those commandments are describing what holy love looks like and Jesus fulfills that description.
Here are some of Paul’s instructions in Romans. Take the time to read them and answer the question that introduces each verse. Some of the exhortations you may find to be unhelpful, some will be revelatory.
What do you see about how Jesus loves you?
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; (Romans 12:10)
What do you see about how Jesus loves you?
Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. (Romans 12:16)
What do you see about how Jesus loves you?
Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this– not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way. (Romans 14:13)
What do you see about how Jesus loves you?
So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. (Romans 14:19)
What do you see about how Jesus loves you?
Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to the Messiah Jesus, (Romans 15:5)

Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of the Messiah greet you. (Romans 16:16)
