God’s Act of True Love
How much does God desire to bring you to Himself?
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
God demonstrated His love at Calvary.
Why the demonstration? God wants you to know the extent of His desire. Words would not be sufficient. Revelation alone would not suffice. To convey this truth, it took action: Messiah’s sacrifice.
Then comes inspired words to interpret what was done at the cross. Then comes revelation to make the words really real to us… grippingly real.
Our responsibility is to meditate upon this reality. We can pray about it, praise God upon the basis of it, and speak about it to our friends. We can offer gratitude to the Lord.
God’s responsibility is to reveal the heart behind the demonstration. It is good to know that His current love for us is as strong as it was when His love for us motivated Jesus to die for us. Let’s abide in this love.
While we were sinners, Jesus died for us.
I think the writers of the Scriptures may have taken sin more seriously than we do. Or, perhaps we’re just used to this reality and have become jaded.
“I was a sinner (ho hum).”
“Jesus died for me (that’s nice).”
Where is our wonder?
Do we realize that in any sane administration our treason would warrant the death penalty? But our King loves us, who were transgressors, so much that He gave His Son as our rescuer, our savior, our redeemer, our sacrifice. For the wages of sin are death and God could not stand to see those He loves get what they deserve. He has provided the ransom who is the redeemer.
Amazing love. Staggering mercy.
What favor we’ve been shown.
