Always on His Mind
Treasure God’s thoughts.
Psalm 139 celebrates God’s personal attention. God knows us, concentrates upon us, sees our next steps, makes plans concerning us, always watches over us… Nothing hides us from Him. Nothing obscures His vision.
This might make someone with a guilty conscience a bit uncomfortable. Not the psalmist. Through the righteousness of Jesus, not us, either. To break it down, God loves you each, and every, second of your life. For those embraced in the Beloved Son, God’s thoughts are immediately, eternally, and ultimately motivated by His love.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You (Psalm 139:17 18).
Is God everywhere? Yes, and His awareness accompanies His presence.
Is He with you? Yes. He is always there and He is always thinking of you. If that is not comforting it is because you may have a skewed view of God’s perspective.
Whether we are conscious of them, or unaware of them, He has individual thoughts concerning each of us. They are like individual grains of sand in a desert, or a beach.
Think about the vast sum of these thoughts. Amazingly, not one of them is superfluous. In case we miss it, the psalmist was reaching for a way to convey that they are infinite in number. After all, you’re going to be in God’s presence forever. In every moment of eternity, you will partake of your Father’s attention and creativity.
This is real, so make this your present reality. Meditate on the God who meditates
on you.
