The Fullness of God
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us. (Ephesians 3:20)
How well developed is your imagination? How detailed are your plans? How extensive are your resources? How about your ability to bring them to pass?
This verse is the beginning of Paul’s prayer’s triumphant conclusion. He just revealed that knowing the Lord Jesus’ love would initiate a process that would culminate in the believing community being filled up with God’s fullness.
The fullness of God, manifest in redeemed humanity, will look exactly like Jesus. This would include every aspect of holy relationship with God and humanity, the outworking of a heavenly status in the earth, as well as overcoming sin, sickness and Satan. The fullness of God looks like God’s triumphant love. This is what God is calling us to experience and reveal.
It’s too much.
It’s hard to believe.
It’s never been corporately revealed.
Paul said it is the church’s destiny.
How can this happen? Our Redeeming Creator can cause it to come to pass. He is capable of glorifying His beloved Son in the believing community. His power is working in us. It will prevail.
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in [the] Messiah Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20–21)
Obviously there is a future aspect to this verse because there is a day when God’s love for each and every one of us is going to be fully revealed and totally experienced. Note the “forever and ever” aspect of God receiving glory in the community of His faith-full ones.
There is more to experience in this life. Also, we have a lot to look forward to.
Pray. Let’s ask Father to help us stretch our imaginations. Ask this: What will the fulfillment of this verse actually look like?
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us. (Ephesians 3:20)
It will look like the fruition of thoroughly knowing Jesus’ love – the fullness of God.
