Harvest
Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. (Galatians 6:9)
Our view of when the harvest should be due may be mistaken. When there are sustained delays we are tempted to give up.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life. (Proverbs 13:12)
Recognizing this, Paul wrote:
Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. (Galatians 6:9)
Waiting for a harvest might wear us out. However, the guaranteed result of waiting on God will be the renewal of our strength.
Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. (Isaiah 40:31)
Let’s get our eyes off the promised harvest and onto the one who promised. As we do, let’s bring to mind Paul’s exhortation to be patient and, resisting weariness through cultivating hope, continue to sow with expectation.
James wrote:
Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. (James 5:7)
Right after that verse, James wrote, “You, too, be patient… (James 5:8b).”
If want to receive increased revelation of God’s love reveal His love to others in how you treat them. Start with how you think of them and expect the mercy and kindness you cultivate in your heart to produce a harvest of goodness towards them. Dedicate that harvest to the Lord and wait to see what happens.
You will reap what you sow.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7–8)
This is good news. Trust that God wants to reveal His love to you. As you sow love of, for, and towards others you will reap a harvest of the awareness of His affection.
