Sowing and Reaping
A Primary Spiritual Principle
the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:8b)
Some things bear repeating. We touched on this topic in our ninth blog. This is our 50th and we will concentrate upon this principle for another few posts.
I’m intrigued by the reality of this means to increase in the knowledge of God’s love. Look at a bit more of the context in Galatians 6.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7–8)
This verse is one of Paul’ affirmations of the ancient revelation of sowing and reaping.
Remember, the Creator revealed that there will always be seasons of sowing followed by seasons of harvest.
“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)
That is how things work.
History is going somewhere, but it is going somewhere in progressive cycles. So also are our lives. We are all reaping what we’ve sowed and we are also sowing for a future harvest.
The following verses apply and codify this principle. They offer a concise summary of Israel’s inspired wisdom tradition.
Honor the Lord from your wealth And from the first of all your produce; So your barns will be filled with plenty And your vats will overflow with new wine. (Proverbs 3:9–10)
Here’s another:
He who is generous will be blessed, For he gives some of his food to the poor. (Proverbs 22:9)
If we sow finances, we will reap finances. As we sow abundantly, we reap abundantly.
Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. (2 Corinthians 9:6)
The most impressive affirmation of this ancient wisdom came through God incarnate. Jesus said:
“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”
(Luke 6:38)
If we sow generously towards people, we will reap generosity from people.
From my perspective, what is true in the material world and human relationships is also true in the things pertaining to the spirit. I believe that if we sow love towards others, with the hope of receiving love from God, we will reap a revelation of His love.
Do you believe that if you sow love towards others, with the hope of receiving love from God, you will reap a revelation of His love? Affirming this requires living faith. If you believe this principle then don’t delay, sow love today and trust the harvest will be on its way.
