Eros
This is where the Greek root “eros” is used in the Septuagint and the New Testament:
This list of verses from the Septuagint contains the word “eros”. The version of the Septuagint that is used here is the LXX English Translation (Brenton). I employed the New Revised Standard for the apocryphal book “Wisdom”. The three NT uses are from the New American Standard. I accessed this through BibleWorks.
Septuagint:
Here is an example of positive eros, concerning loving the woman, “Wisdom”:
LXE Proverbs 4:6 And forsake it not, and it shall cleave to thee: love it, and it shall keep thee.
This advice is echoed in the Apocryphal book of “Wisdom” which celebrated Solomon’s love for “wisdom”.
NRS Wisdom 8:2 I loved her and sought her from my youth; I desired to take her for my bride, and became enamored of her beauty.
This apocryphal book, “Wisdom” also uses eros to describe an elicit spiritual love affair.
NRS Wisdom 15:6 Lovers of evil things and fit for such objects of hope are those who either make or desire or worship them.
Here “eros” is used in, possibly, a positive manner…
LXE Esther 2:17 And the king loved Esther, and she found favour beyond all the other virgins: and he put on her the queen’s crown.
“Eros” translates from ahavah in Hosea – eraston used to convey illicit love)
LXE Hosea 2:5 And their mother went a-whoring: she that bore them disgraced them: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, and my garments, and my linen clothes, my oil and my necessaries.
LXE Hosea 2:7 And she shall follow after her lovers, and shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: and she shall say, I will go, and return to my former husband; for it was better with me than now.
LXE Hosea 2:10 And now I will expose her uncleanness before her lovers, and no one shall by any means deliver her out of my hand.
LXE Hosea 2:12 And I will utterly destroy her vines, and her fig-trees, all things of which she said, These are my hire which my lovers have given me: and I will make them a testimony, and the wild beasts of the field, and the birds of the sky, and the reptiles of the earth shall devour them.
LXE Hosea 2:13 And I will recompense on her the days of Baalim, wherein she sacrificed to them, and put on her ear-rings, and her necklaces, and went after her lovers, and forgot me, saith the Lord.
(Here eros is used to translate agavim: illicit erotic love)
LXE Jeremiah 4:30 And what wilt thou do? Though thou clothe thyself with scarlet, and adorn thyself with golden ornaments; though thou adorn thine eyes with stibium, thy beauty will be in vain: thy lovers have rejected thee, they seek thy life.
The rest of these uses of eros in Jeremiah, Lamentations and Ezekiel translate a word derived from ahavah. The words are used to convey illicit lovers)
LXE Jeremiah 22:20 Go up to Libanus, and cry; and utter thy voice to Basan, and cry aloud to the extremity of the sea: for all thy lovers are destroyed.
LXE Jeremiah 22:22 The wind shall tend all thy shepherds, and thy lovers shall go into captivity; for then shalt thou be ashamed and disgraced because of all thy lovers.
LXE Lamentations 1:19 KOPH. I called my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and my elders failed in the city; for they sought meat that they might restore their souls, and found it not.

LXE Ezekiel 23:5 And Oola went a-whoring from me, and doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians that were her neighbors,
LXE Ezekiel 23:9 Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the children of the Assyrians, on whom she doted.
