This list of verses from the Septuagint contain the word “agape”. Usually “agape” translates the Hebrew word, “ahavah” which means “love”.

Read them and see how “agape” is used in the translation of the Bible with which the early church was familiar.

The version of the Septuagint that is used here is the LXX English Translation (Brenton). I accessed this through BibleWorks.

Agape

Here are the verses in the New Testament where some form of the word ‘agape’ is used.  ‘Agape’ is a Greek word that means ‘love.’ The Translation that is being used is the New American Standard Bible. BibleWorks (Hermeneutica) is the name of the program that enabled this.

To best utilize this resource, first, describe agape by answering this question: What type of love is agape?

[Please do not paraphrase 1 Corinthians 13]

Now, read every verse and seek to understand agape through the context of these verses.

After you’ve done this, revisit the question (What type of love is agape?) and write another definition of agape.
